WOC 2008 Middle Distance Area Map 1

This is one of the two maps downloadable from the Czech O map server covering terrain within the area embargoed for the Middle qualifier/final/reserve. It's a JPEG and opens fine in Microsoft Windows and Fax Viewer and Paint but some other programs (IrfanView and OCAD 8 that I've tried so far) find something objectionable about the header information. Whatever the problem is seems to survive saving to other formats out of Paint. Anyone got any idea how to turn this into something usable by more software programs?

Mindeparken photo

Here's my first part. This one's pretty easy to find on the sprint map.

Exercise 2

Part 1: Design some courses for the middle distance final or quali. Guidelines here: www.woc2006.dk/competitions.html
Part 2: Post an actual picture of the Mindeparken and think about where it might be located while looking at the sprint map.

I still have ideas, but my creativity is dwindling, so if there's anything you wanted in particular, feel free to create next week's exercise.

Sprint course. 3-something.

Exercise 1

Here's the first exercise! Work on it and post what you come up with. Remember to email me to be registered to post on the blog.

Design three sprint courses for Mindeparken, location of the sprint race in Denmark. I think it would be easiest to import the maps into OCad, create the course, then export it as a jpeg to post.

Guidelines from the WOC06 website:
Men Qualification: 3.1km, 14min
Men Final: 3.2km, 14min
Women Quali: 2.7km, 14min
Women Final: 2.8km, 14min

Due: Friday, Feb 3.

And of course, feel free to post new mental training exercises for others.

Welcome!

This site is intended as a resource for Canadian Elite Orienteers, specifically for those intending to go to WOC Denmark, but also WC Estonia, JWOC, NAOC or other major competitions. The main purpose of the site is to post mental training exercises for each other so we can be best prepared for the intense competition this summer.

This is how it will work: Every week on Monday, an 'assignment' will be posted. By Friday night, finish it off and post what you have come up with. Then we download each other's work and use it for more mental training when you have some spare time.

In order to post images, you need to be a member of the blog, so email me if you'd like to take part in this or post Monday exercises.
